My Earth, My Story
"My Earth, My Story" is an event taking place on Tuesday April 27th at 7pm on the Quad.
The purpose of this event is to create a safe space where students can share the core values, beliefs and experiences that influence their view of and interactions with the natural world. We hope to show that students with different backgrounds can share the same goal of caring for the earth.
Students will have the opportunity to share their answer to the following question through brief spoken narrative (optional but encouraged) and creative works: "How do you view the natural world, including your relationship and responsibility to it?" Acceptable works include music,
literature, visual art, theatre, etc. and should somehow illustrate the student's perspective on the earth. These works may be original, but do not have to be. (For example, someone could perform a work by Bach and relate it to their view of the earth).
Our process for planning this event has included meeting on a weekly basis to determine and assign tasks. The tasks we have carried out include: meeting with CCA Production Services for an event estimate, asking for and receiving funding from the music department, creating a Google Form for participants, emailing various campus organizations and departments for help spreading the word, working with a graphic designer for advertisements, and planning our own ways to participate in the event itself. For example, Nathan and Nicky will be premiering a cello-viola duet illustrating that Earth belongs to all peoples, and we must work together to protect it. Kaden will present something separately.
