Are We Actually Helping?

Consumerism and capitalism have been two very prominent themes this semester. Some scientists have said that growth is impossible without a capitalistic society and economy, others have said that the constant need for growth will be what ultimately kills us in the end. Some big companies like Tesla, Amazon, and Apple to name a few, claim that they are “going green” to help the environment, but I’ve asked, are they really? All these big tech companies may look like they are trying to appear more “green” but in reality, they still might be doing more harm than good on an ecological level, and an infrastructural level.

This piece shows two hands seemingly watering a small dying plant. Watering seems good, right? Really the weak and fragile plant, which represents our ecological infrastructure, is being watered with oil, representing major companies, and it is slowly killing it. Some companies seem to be doing good or ‘watering’ the earth on the outside, but are they really doing good?
