Artist's Statement

Wasps are most often misunderstood, feared and killed. In this collaboration with Brenna Decker, a Ph.D. Grad Student in Biology, we are striving to decrease fear and increase understanding of wasps. In this portion of my part of the exhibition that will take place in 2023, I chose to depict Yellow Jackets, as a native Utah species that are frequently at the center of attention in a not so flattering light and are very recognizable. The way I chose to stylize the wasps was to make them more approachable and fun for the viewers.
