Artist's Statement

Many of us enjoy hiking to beautiful sights and swimming through nature's sweet waters.
Unfortunately, some of the world's wildest wonders that have been here for millenniums will
vanish within us and our children’s lifetime. An Anthropocene course has revealed to me how
complex climate change has become. It is easy to feel overwhelmed, but we have to start
somewhere. We are bombarded by the constant challenges of climate change. Instead, I want to
flip the mindset by first focusing on community change. My refraction piece's purpose was to
invoke participation and create an image with the hands and minds of those who want to help.
The collaborated photo mosaic collage of the globe is arranged with pictures of those who are
making more conscious decisions and combating climate starting with the simple changes. If
we can not take the steps to do the little things then how are we going to be prepared to take on
the big challenges?
