Kalli Christensen - 2022

Artist's Statement

This project was inspired by the work of Giles Cenazandotti, who transformed plastic trash washed ashore from the ocean, into sculptures of recycled animals. I used photographs that show pollution and turned them into a collage, each one taking the shape of a fish and human lungs, respectively. Along with the collage is a quote. Each photo contains a hyperlink, as well, to articles explaining our pollution crisis and the threat it is to our planet. My process was easy, yet I took deliberate time to find photographs that would stand out. The credit for each photo belongs to the artists/photographer and I did not capture any of the images.

Christensen Kalli. Fish built out of images of pollution. "There is no such thing as 'away' when we throw anything away. It must go somewhere." -Annie Leonard

Lungs made out of images of city pollution. "There's so much pollution in the air now that if it weren't for our lungs, there'd be no place to put it all." -Robert Orbden
