Artist Statement

I call this piece “Symbiotic Death”. Humans tend to decimate surrounding environments in an effort to achieve capital success in society. By doing so, we are effectively killing ourselves in the process. Without thriving environments, humans will cease to exist, hence ‘symbiotic death’. In attempting to make humanity thrive, we are instead paving the road to our own extinction. 

I have always been passionate about Earth and its various environments, each individualized and intricate. Throughout my years growing up, I hated seeing how much destruction humans have caused, whether it’s mass fires from climate change, oil spills, population extinction, plastic pollution, and numerous more. Many people don’t realize that this damage is not exclusive to these species or environments, it threatens our own existence. My hope is that one day we will be able to mend all this ruination before it’s too late.
