Sam Potter - 2022

Artist Statement

I lived in California and experienced some of California’s most notorious Wildfires in history. The piece of art has a statement that reminds that global warming is coming, and it is coming fast. We all need to work together to make sure that we can fix what is happening. Experiencing this fire was super scary and eye opening this was the first time that global warming became apparent for me. There was fire everywhere I went on the mountains in fields and even on houses. Even in the northern region of California there was ash that was falling from the sky. I remembered it was in December and I was thinking to myself that it was snowing but it was ash that was falling on the ground. There were a lot of people and animals that were affected by the fires, and it was sad to see that so much of the land was destroyed due to the fires. This picture is a way for me to reflect and to raise awareness for what I experienced while living there.
