The Anthropocene Suite

Artist's Statement

I decided I was going to write one symphonic piece of music that represented the general idea of the class. Long story short, I ended up writing a 13 minute, three-movement suite, with pictures and text to help encapsulate the whole class. So, it took a little bit more effort than I previously thought it would. I started out writing absolute crap. I ended up throwing away about three different songs that I was not happy with, but then I wrote the first movement, and I was very happy with it. But I felt it did not represent all I wanted it to. That forced me to then write the next two movements so I could completely get all my ideas out of the way. At this point I was so invested in a big project; I figured one more time consuming project can’t hurt. So, I decided to make my music into a movie, because I felt that was the best way to get all my ideas out into one cohesive project.
