Samantha Christenson - 2023

Artist's Statement

I am an artistic person, that is how I like to express myself, but I didn’t want to do a
boring old painting or drawing which was my original idea. Then, one day as I was thinking about what to do, I suddenly thought of comic strips from newspapers and thought that would be a fun and unique way to show how I felt about certain environmental situations. “Global Warming” and “Waste of Calories” were inspired due to global warming and the unfortunate circumstances it brings, such as the glaciers melting and ice caps shrinking. “#PlasticNecklace” was inspired by all of the issues regarding our oceans being filled with trash and harming wildlife.

I know this is a different approach, but I personally learn better and empathize more when something is brought to my attention in a fun and unique way. I learned a lot from this class and have learned a lot and plan to make changes needed to help and invite my friends and family to do so as well.
