Artist's Statement
I chose to focus my final project on the decline of the world’s ocean and the bleaching of corals. I decided to write these poems in hope to create awareness of the importance of the world’s oceans and corals. Our planets oceans are what make up most of it, so to see it decline and be polluted because of our consumption really shows how poorly we care about our planet. There
have been numerous efforts to help clean the oceans which is fantastic and a great start. I feel though that the oceans and the life inside them are overlooked. Not everyone has the chance to see these large bodies of water and the Sealife daily, so it tends to receive less coverage and attention on a large scale. My hope is that these poems will aid in the awareness of the decline of our oceans.
Poems
Beneath the waves, a world unknown,
Where corals thrive and creatures roam.
But climate change, a deadly foe,
Has brought destruction, brought it low.
The waters warm, the corals fade,
And with them, life, a mournful trade.
The ocean's health, now in decline,
As warming waters undermine.
2.
The corals, once a vibrant scene,
Now bleached and lifeless, a tragic dream.
The warming seas, a harsh demand,
Destroying life across the land.
A world without these reefs so grand,
Would bring catastrophe, unplanned.
For coral's loss, a domino fall,
Would cause disasters, one and all.
3.
The ocean's secrets, once unseen,
Are now exposed, a world unclean.
The warming waters, a harsher place,
Affecting life, the whole world's space.
The corals, guardians of the sea,
Protecting life and you and me.
Their loss, a tragedy untold,
Affecting all, the young and old.
4.
The ocean's beauty, once so bright,
Is now a shadow, a fading light.
The corals, once a vivid scene,
Now lost to us, a tragic dream.
The warming waters, a harsh demand,
Destroying life across the land.
The loss of coral, a warning bell,
Of future disasters, we must quell.
5.
The ocean's depths, a wondrous sight,
A world of beauty, out of sight.
But climate change, a deadly blow,
Is harming life, we need to know.
The corals, homes to countless lives,
Are fading fast, our world deprived.
The warming seas, a looming threat,
Destroying life, we can't forget.
6.
The ocean's rhythms, once so sure,
Now falter, in a world unsure.
The corals, once a vibrant hue,
Now fading, under skies so blue.
The warming seas, a ruthless foe,
Destroying life, a painful blow.
We need to act, to save our world,
And protect the sea, before it's hurled.
7.
The ocean's voice, now loud and clear,
Is crying out, for all to hear.
The corals, guardians of the sea,
Are fading fast, it's plain to see.
The warming waters, a threat so real,
Destroying life, we need to heal.
We must act now, before it's too late,
To save the ocean, our common fate.
8.
The ocean's pulse, a beating heart,
Now struggling, in a world apart.
The corals, once a vibrant sight,
Now fading fast, a tragic plight.
The warming seas, a harsher place,
Destroying life, a deadly race.
We need to change, our harmful ways,
And save the ocean, for future days.
9.
The ocean's songs, a melody sweet,
Now fading, in a world of heat.
The corals, homes to life so bright,
Now fading fast, a painful sight.
The warming waters, a cruel fate,
Destroying life, we can't debate.
We need to act, to save the sea,
And protect the corals, for you and me.
10.
The ocean's soul, a world unknown,
Now struggling, in a world alone.
The corals, once a vibrant scene,
Now fading fast, a tragic theme.
The warming seas, a global call,
Destroying life, one and all.
We need to act, to save the sea,
And protect the corals, for you and me
