Artist's Statement

My final project is a Stereoscope depicting a nature setting inside of a painted black box. Real bark and flowers were used to create the scene. Stereoscopes were objects that people in the 1800s used to look at interesting images whether it was places they wanted to go or wonders of the world. They could look through the eyeholes of the stereoscope and imagine what it was like to be in a different place. In a way it was old fashioned virtual reality. This Stereoscope is meant to be a jump into the future of what people might be wishing to experience again as climate change and other earthly struggles ensue. Perhaps future generations would only be able to view vivid and healthy nature through means of virtual reality.
