Artist's Statement

I was inspired to write a poem after watching documentaries such as Chasing Ice, Time to Choose, The Biggest Little Farm, and the film The End of Poverty?. These documentaries made an impact on me as a whole. I got a better understanding of the reality of Climate change, deforestation, Inequality, abuse, slavery, and power.

The film The End of Poverty reminded me of my country and the life that I experienced and witnessed as a child. The corruption and ‘eternal international debt’ is the foundation of abuse of power and inequality that exists to this day.

I am passionate about justice, and human rights. My poem is a small reflection of my experiences and the knowledge that I have gained in this class. I am extremely grateful for a class like this that has impacted my life and has inspired me to make a difference in the world. I am committed to continue a journey of purpose and solution where I can contribute to a sustainable life for me, my family, and my community.

I am grateful to live in this country of abundance. I am grateful for the knowledge and the good examples that I could follow to protect the environment. The poem that I have written for this project is a tribute to my family, my home- the good old United States, and the environment. I decided to use pictures as a background for the words of my poem to emphasize the beauty of the nature that surrounds me. I have the best memories from Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, the Uintah Basin, San Diego, San Juan River, and Yampa River, and dearest memories from just my backyard.

Thank you for this opportunity that allows me to express deep and sacred feelings.
