Climate Art at Caffe Ibis

Artist Statement

Unintentional human impacts on the climate are causing detrimental impacts to biodiversity, an atmospheric change in temperature, and deterioration of the environment. The  imminent threat of climate change is well understood today, but as a society, we are lacking the momentum to make space to organize and create change.

For our collaborative final project we have curated an exhibition of Climate Response Art. We want to create space for artists to share their work in an accessible public space, in order to maximize opportunity for climate-conscious conversations within the community. Throughout the entire process of curating the exhibition, and reaching out to people, this exhibition has remained a positive stance and outlook on our future.

We chose to deliberately steer away from the negative and dooming outlooks that usually coincide with climate change. To encourage forward thinking within the exhibition, the artists involved will have the option to provide an informational pamphlet, flier, zine, etc. By having a community based Climate Art Exhibition we are encouraging the recognition of the issue. We are creating space for conversation as well as providing resources that empower the viewer to feel like change is possible.
