The Long Drive
Artist's Statement
This multimedia collage piece is called the Long Drive. It was created by combining
different kinds of images, magazines, photos, and drawing into one cohesive piece. Knowing I wanted to represent both my love for our beautiful planet and a way to bring people together in that love I looked for and created images that felt right. They had to both speak to my message and work together. The focal point is a piece from a magazine and a painting of a car coming towards the viewer, the car’s lights altered by the water. We are all on a long drive around the planet and it is important to preserve what we love about it. I also purposely included pieces of Roman relics. In Rome, they are well preserved and taken care of, with everyone on the same page that they are a vital part of history. I believe that art can help bring us all to that same place with our environment and what I wanted to show through this art piece.
