Artist's Statement

I believe that we all have talents that can be used together in collaboration to make our world a better place. For this project I used my talents as a pianist and collaborated with some of my peers that are both artists and pianists to put on an environmental awareness event. There are so many issues that need to be solved in our world it can overwhelming and hard to see where you can make a difference. However, by raising awareness and inspiring people through sights and sounds that evoke powerful emotion, change can be spurred. The piece I played for this project is Called Caprice Impromptu Op. 153 by Cecile Chaminade. I think this piece really triggers a lot of emotion as it takes the listeners on a roller coaster throughout different phases of the piece. This can be representative of the emotions we feel as we see our world going through changes, sometimes it feels as if things are spiraling out of control, but then we get a glimpse of hope and see there is a light that we can work towards together. Ultimately, I hope this event was able to bring people together to explore these issues and the emotions that come with it, and be inspired to join us in being a part of the solution.
