Artist's Statement
Throughout this class, I was struck with the though, “It’s about systems, not villains.” I come from a rural town with an agricultural background. There were times in this class where I felt angry about some of the material we were reading or some of the things being said. I really felt like agriculturalists were being attacked and I did take it a little personally. When Dr. Davies introduced the concept of systems and not villains, I finally was able to listen and understand what he was trying to teach us. For that reason, I chose to write this children’s book, focused on collaborating with others and never simply blaming other people. I hope it is a way to teach children to always look at the bigger issue and to not just get caught up in their own anger or beliefs.
