Our World
Artist's Statement
I decided to create a simple children’s story, written and drawn on a tablet. This children’s story depicts the creation of the world, and all the work that went into it. The world went through a lot to get it to the state that it’s in, a state that’s perfect for us to live in. Any closer or any farther, any hotter or any colder, and we wouldn’t have the life that we live today. This is why climate change is such a huge issue. The world, because of high emissions and so many other issues, is increasing in temperature. This increase in temperature, if it isn’t curved, isn’t sustainable for our population.
This unsustainability is a problem, and it’s a problem that we need to face today. It’s also a problem we need to be able to teach our children. At the end of the story, the question “what else can you do to help our beautiful world be happy” is posed. It invites the children to think, to find a way to be involved, and find ways to be advocates for change, even at their young age.
I’ve called this story “Our World”. This world is ours, and we need to be able to take ownership for that. We are responsible for its well being. We’re responsible for taking care of it the very best we can. We need to love and do everything we can to help our world be the best it can be, not only for ourselves, but for our posterity.
