Artist's Statement

My project was a clothing swap and drive that supported not only the environment but also the families of cache valley. My motivation came from the knowledge I’ve gained about the environmental impacts of textiles on the planet from waste of physical textiles as well as their manufacturing wastes that go directly into the air and water we rely on daily. The process was based in networking. I worked with church and community leaders to set everything up from step 1, promoting to the final step, donating the remaining items to others in need at no cost with no waste. We utilized and reused bags throughout the process as well so as to not waiste anything. I was able to contact local services such as; CAPSA, The Family Place, BRAG, Families Feeding Families, and the Cache County City Offices, to get their clients to attend as well as see who and where the items could be used the most at free cost. Each of these services pointed me to Sombody’s Attic which is where the remaining items were delivered. Watch this brief presentation for more information.
