Faith Beasterfield - 2024

Artist's Statement

The Earth’s global average temperature has risen by a little bit less than 2℉ since the Industrial Revolution. My song, “2 Degrees” tells the story of how that temperature increase can affect our lives, both now and in the future. In particular, I mention the weather as well as the snowpack, which is where we get the majority of our fresh water in the state of Utah. As a person with seemingly very little tolerance for hot weather in general, the reality of our summers only getting hotter and hotter from now on, causes me great distress– which is the greatest motivation for me writing this song. Beginning the process of writing this song was difficult due to my great desire to get the message fully clear and correct. However, after the main guitar pattern was composed and recorded, the rest of the song flowed out of me onto paper. Now recorded, it can exist forever as a warning to our current and future generations, to inspire action to change our dire situation.
