poem

In the tapestry of time, we are woven,
Born of flesh and bone, the legacy unbroke
With knowledge passed from age to age,
We tread the path, our destiny to engage.

With power to shape, to build, to mold,
Yet careless are we, our future sold.
Forgetting the whispers of our ancestral lore,
We march ahead, blind to what's in store.

Hope flickers in the depths of our souls,
As we heed the voices, the ones in control.
But greed has stained our vision clear,
And in it's grasp, our future reers.

So we turn our gaze to days of old,
Seeking wisdom in tales untold.
When air was pure, and land unbound,
Before the man on top forced us down.

The blood of thse who titled the earth,
Now echos softly, a forgotten mirth.
Yet still, we journey, heedless and free,
Polluting the air, striping the sea

Windows down, we drive with glee,
Unaware of the price, the silent plea.
For it's not progress that bears the blame,
But the greed of man, who play the game.

So I ask, as time continues to bond,
Will the cycle cease before the end?
In the dance of fate, will we find release,
Or drown beneath the waves of our own greed?

Amidst the chase, listen, with care,
To the final song of a bird's despair.
It's melody fades, lost in the dim,
For it was the last, never to sing again.

Artist's Statement

This is a poem that I wrote about what I have seen and felt during my semester in my Unveiling the Anthropocene class. I want this poem to create emotion in the person reading it. In this class, I have felt anger, shame, sorrow, and hope! This is what I hope my readers will feel as well. I love poetry, I find it easier for me to express my thoughts and feelings through this art.
