Scott Wilbur and Noah Johnson - 2024

Artist's Statement
Giving the pressing exigence of a withering world, we felt compelled to produce a metaphor to illustrate the alacrity at which our planet is perishing. To do so, we decided to paint a picture of the Earth, representing the time it took to form a climate suitable for habitation. After completion, our intent was to burn the painting, representing the speed at which the systems of the Anthropocene invite destruction.
For this work, Scott did most of the painting with Noah assisting in detailing and documentation. Since there was no suitable place to burn the painting, we will be doing it after we return home in the summer. We would be glad to share the video, but until then, all we have is the complete painting for demonstration.
