Artist's Statement

Throughout the semester one of the things that stood out to me most was the loss of biodiversity and the increase of deforestation. As someone who grew up in Idaho only a short drive from the mountains and forests the thought of them being destroyed is heartbreaking. I decided to compose a piano piece called “Through The Forest” depicting someone walking through the forest experiencing life and serenity. Then it takes a turn to where it grows darker, and the forest is dying. Near the end, it returns to the main melody representing what I hope is the restoration of our forests.
