Annie Zaugg - 2024

Artist's Statement
In a culture of corporate greed and deception towards consumers, my poster aims to strip away the illusions and confront viewers with the uncomfortable truth of greenwashing. I wanted to use discomfort and unease as tools to make my audience question the integrity of the brands they have been told to trust. These seemingly noble intentions by corporations are all too often used as a manipulation device, and I aim to bring awareness to that fact.
My creative process included research about the subject as well as discourse into design itself. The cover of the poster is inspired by a photo found of a bird soaked in oil, victim of a company who praises themselves for making the planet a better place for us all. To meet the piercing eye is to acknowledge the uncomfortable realities beneath the surface of greenwashing. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a deeper examination of the messages we encounter and to empower individuals to see through the facade of false promises. To hold corporations accountable for their unmet promises is a step towards a just world.
