Talk Description
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Arctic environment, during the past three decades, has undergone profound and unprecedented changes. Temperatures have increased nearly four times faster than the global average and sea ice has diminished sharply. These changes have allowed an opening of the Arctic to new areas of commerce, including shipping, oil and mineral exploration, as well as tourism. In addition, these changes heighten the region’s strategic position among military powers.
How then, can Arctic residents and other stakeholders communicate effectively about the region’s future?
Science and technical communicator Cana Itschuaqiyaq combines Arctic experiences and Inuit perspective with theory and data to develop effective methods to equip others in planning and conducting respectful research, teaching, organizational strategy and advocacy work. At Science Unwrapped, she’ll talk about her research and vision.
