Eat Mor Chikin

Artist's Statement

Eat Mor Chikin* is a poster/brochure made as an information and commentary piece for anyone who consumes factory bred and “farmed” chicken. On the front is a pixelated and incredibly saturated Chick-fil-A sandwich which represents how full of chemicals the chicken is and how disconnected the chicken is to us as consumers because of all the hidden “fees” that go into making it. The back of the poster, which can be folded into a brochure, has information with sources for how these factories harm both consumers and the chickens themselves, the workers, and the environment. It also has more pixelated graphics that tie the information and commentary together. The back page of the brochure has a call-to-action statement meant to inspire and encourage systemic change.

Taking the Unveiling the Anthropocene class has motivated me to speak up more about the changes that need to happen. This poster is an example of my newfound passion for climate activism. I wanted to make something jarring but inspirational. The pixelated chicken sandwich was meant to draw viewers in, then when paired with the concerning white text the viewer should be compelled to flip it over and learn more. I hoped to make it personable with the funny bold text so it’s not too information heavy, and I wanted to make the information more casual so it’s easier to digest but still convincing. Overall, making this piece helped me learn why eating so much meat in general is bad for the environment, and I look forward to teaching this to others using this poster.
