Bridge Program for Advanced Language Learning

Welcome to the Bridge Program for Advanced Language Learning (the Bridge Program) at Utah State University (USU). The Bridge Program is a partnership between Utah's K-12 and higher education systems. As a part of higher education’s partnership with Utah State Board of Education (USBE) to offer early college Concurrent Enrollment credit, the Utah Bridge Program focus is centered on supporting access to bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural citizenship, and meeting each student’s potential in college pathways. The Bridge Program allows students to graduate from high school with one to three classes short of a minor in a language.

Is the Bridge Program for You?

Are you a Utah high school student? The Bridge Program offers an advanced language pathway for high school students who have passed the Advanced Placement (AP) Language and Culture Exam, "bridging" the gap between completion of the exam and higher education.

Do you want to achieve advanced language proficiency and cultural competency?  The Bridge Program promotes bilingual and multicultural citizenship. The program also promotes opportunities for native and heritage language student to maintain and build language skills. All our USU Bridge Program instructors are highly qualified and trained to teach in the high school Bridge Program.

Do you want to a earn a minor or a major in a foreign language quicker at USU? Students who have completed the entire Bridge Program are able to earn a minor in Chinese, French, or Portuguese by taking only two additional classes at USU. Earning a minor in German requires only one additional class at USU and a Spanish minor requires three additional classes.

Contact Bridge Program Coordinator Katie Marin for more information on the Bridge Program. Academic Advisor Brendan Lee can provide you with information on your transition from the Bridge Program to USU language programs.
