Light of Old Main Award

Recognizing a staff member whose career reflects sustained excellence, dedication, leadership, and meaningful service to the College of Arts & Sciences. Through their years of commitment and contributions, they have made a lasting impact on the college, its people, and its mission, leaving a legacy that will continue to benefit the Arts & Sciences community.

A Strong Nominee...

  • Demonstrates a long-term commitment to excellence, service, and the success of the college.
  • Has made meaningful and lasting contributions that have positively influenced colleagues, students, faculty, departments, or the broader Arts & Sciences community.
  • Has shared knowledge, institutional expertise, leadership, or mentorship that has strengthened the college and will continue to benefit others.
  • Has demonstrated leadership and dedication over the course of their career, whether through formal leadership roles or by serving as a trusted resource and example to others.
  • Has left a lasting and meaningful legacy within their department or the college through their contributions, relationships, and commitment to the Arts & Sciences community.

Criteria & Eligibility

  1. Must be in a current, benefit-eligible position and have been employed at USU for a minimum of two continuous years.
  2. Be in good standing with their respective department and the university (no disciplinary actions on file within the last three years).
  3. Demonstrates commitment to job excellence with evidence the nominee produces high quality work, proficiency, initiative, and dependability. Shows exceptional knowledge and skills, self-motivation, and a positive attitude.
  4. Communicates and collaborates effectively within or across workgroups, labs, offices, departments, or divisions within the context of position responsibilities; maintains effective working relationships with co-workers.
  5. This award recognizes a staff member who has demonstrated a sustained record of service and contribution to the College of Arts & Sciences over the course of their career.

Nomination Materials

  1. A letter of nomination of up to two pages from the department head or designee addressing the criteria above and answering the following prompt:

    "How has this person’s career and service shaped Arts & Sciences? Please share specific examples of their contributions, leadership, mentorship, or impact, and describe what the college is better for because of their service."

Recognition

Recognized at the College Awards Ceremony. Winners will also be submitted to the Presidential Staff Awards.

Due Date

Nominations are due by December 1 to the Box folder provided by the ArtSci Dean’s Office to the Department Head.
