Scholar of the Year
The Scholar of the Year Award is given each year to honor and highlight outstanding academic achievement. Strong consideration is given to candidates who demonstrate significant involvement in extracurricular and experiential learning activities, as well as leadership and service contributions during their time at USU. Nominees must be on schedule to receive a bachelor’s degree at this year’s commencement ceremony (meaning they completed their bachelor’s degree the previous summer, fall, or current spring).
Criteria
- Completion of undergraduate research.
- Receipt of an URCO or other undergraduate research grant.
- Participation as a writing fellow, teaching assistant, UTF, research assistant, or SI leader.
- Participation in performances or other artistic endeavors.
- Participation in presentations at professional conferences.
- Completion of scholarly publications.
- Participation in the Honors Program.
- Participation in professional or scholarly organizations.
Nomination Materials
- A letter of nomination of up to two pages from the department head or designee with an explanation as to why they are being nominated.
Recognition
Recognized at the College Awards Ceremony. Portfolio for the winner is due to the Provost Office the end of January for university-wide consideration.
Each department may nominate one person for this award who meets the criteria outlined.
Due Date
Nominations are due to the box folder provided by Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office during the open nomination window between December 1-15.
