Eldon J Gardner Teacher of the Year

The Teacher of the Year Award is given each year to recognize and promote excellence in teaching. Other scholarly activity such as research and publication records may be considered in the selection process, but the main emphasis will be on teaching excellence. The awardee will represent the College for the University’s Eldon J. Gardner Teacher of the Year award.

Criteria

  1. Dedication to students and meaningful student outcomes, as demonstrated particularly in the candidate’s teaching philosophy.
  2. Evidence of student learning.
  3. Creative and/or evidence-based teaching innovations.
  4. Course improvements made in response to student or peer feedback.
  5. Dedication to student learning outside the classroom.
  6. Other positive impacts on students through teaching activities.
  7. Annual teaching assignment for at least three years as supported by standard university course evaluations and letters from peers and students.
  8. Responsibility for a minimum of a six-credit annual assignment including at least one undergraduate course.

Nomination Materials

  1. A letter of nomination of up to two pages from the department head or designee, which addresses the criteria listed above.
  2. Abbreviated CV related to the award’s criteria. The College Dean’s Office will pull one from Watermark to be included.

Recognition

Recognized at the College Awards Ceremony. One winner will be selected to compete as the College representative for the University’s Eldon J. Gardner Professor of the Year Award.

Each department may nominate one person for this award who meets the criteria outlined.

Due Date

Nominations are due to the box folder provided by Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office during the open nomination window between December 1-15.
