Undergraduate Faculty Mentor of the Year

The Undergraduate Faculty Mentor of the Year Award is given each year to recognize and encourage excellence in student mentoring beyond standard classroom interaction. Mentoring may be understood as “building a purposeful and personal relationship in which a more experienced person (mentor) provides guidance, feedback, and wisdom to facilitate the growth and development of a less experienced person (mentee).”

Criteria

  1. Mentoring and guiding students as they progress toward academic and career goals.
  2. Work with students that involves professional, community, and/or global engagement.
  3. Active involvement in student clubs, organizations, and honors/scholarship groups.
  4. Student leadership development.
  5. Impact on student support in their retention, belonging, and/or thriving in their academic and personal lives.

Nomination Materials

  1. A letter of nomination of up to two pages from the department head or designee, which addresses the criteria listed above.
  2. Abbreviated CV related to the award’s criteria. The College Dean’s Office will pull one from Watermark to be included.

Recognition

Recognized at the College Awards Ceremony.

Each department may nominate one person for this award who meets the criteria outlined.

Due Date

Nominations are due to the box folder provided by Arts & Sciences Dean’s Office during the open nomination window between December 1-15.
