Using the Facility
Training
General Training
This training is the first required training to become a 'trained user'. This training will be approximately three hours and will teach users how to scan a wide variety of sample types. This training may be completed individually or in lab groups. General training sessions will be held during the first week of each month.
Specialized Training
Specialized training is the second required training to become a 'trained user' and must be completed individually. During this session, users will demonstrate their ability to set scan parameters and execute a scan using their own scanning materials.
Refresher Training
Refresher training is available upon request for trained users who need assistance with scan parameters for their materials. Users will be charged as users in training for these sessions.
Usage Rates
User icon User In Training
Internal
$30/hr
This rate category is for users who have not yet been trained on proper use of the MicroCT scanner and workstation. The higher rate for this user category reflects both the use of the machine and the time required of the Lab Manager for training (before, during, and after scanning and reconstruction).
Clipboard icon Trained User
Internal
$18/hr
This rate category is for users who have received training on proper use of the MicroCT scanner and reconstruction workstations. Each user must complete at least three Lab Manager-supervised scans and demonstrate proficiency in set-up, acquisition, and reconstruction of scans prior to being certified as a “trained user” of the instrument. Once this status is achieved, trained users may request prox card access for unsupervised and/or after-hours use of the facility.
People icon Technician-Performed Scan
Internal
$58/hr
External/Commercial
$125/hr
This rate category is for users that deliver a sample to the Lab Manager for scanning and reconstruction, and applies to both on-campus customers and off-campus/external/commercial customers. The Lab Manager scans the sample on behalf of the customer, reconstructs it using the onsite workstation, and supplies the customer with a file containing the projections, scan parameters, and the reconstructed volume (in both the VG Studio file format, and as an image stack). The customer does not need to be present during scanning/reconstruction.
Chart icon Workstation Analysis
Internal
$6/hr
External/Commercial
$20/hr
After the scan(s) is/are completed and reconstructed, users may access the on-site workstations and software for analysis and 3D rendering. Lab manager does not complete any analysis of scans for external users.
