David B. Drown Scholarship for Public Health

Awarded to students majoring in Public Health who are in good academic standing and have financial need.

Dr. Dane Tang Hansen Endowed Graduate Research Fund

Graduate

To support research expenses for graduate students with a research focus in physiology in the Department of Biology. Preference will be given to first-generation students. Funds can be utilized for but are not limited to: supplies, equipment purchases, research travel, conference travel, and operating costs.

Dr. Ivan G. Palmblad Award

Graduate

This is a research award, which will be awarded to graduate students in the Department of Biology who study in the field of Ecology. Funds may be used for approved purchase of equipment, travel expenses to the field of research site, or other expenses directly related to the student's research project.

Dr. Ivan G. Palmblad Scholarship

Undergraduate

Awarded to full-time, undergraduate students in the Department of Biology who are involved in undergraduate research. Preference will be given to students interested in ecology, evolution, or field biology.

Dr. John W. and Norda Fife Emmett Scholarship

Undergraduate Sophomore Need-Based

Candidates will be undergraduate students in the Department of Biology who will hold Sophomore or higher standing during the academic year for which this award is offered. Candidates will have a 3.0+ cumulative GPA or greater and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to pre-med students, with consideration given to participation in undergraduate research and pre-med related student activities.

Dr. Terry and Faye Marie Whitworth Graduate Scholarship

Graduate

Eligible candidates will be graduate students in the Department of Biology. Preference will be given to students whose research is focused on entomology with an emphasis in insect biology, taxonomy, or pest management. Scholarship funds will be provided to the recipient(s) to be used for tuition, fees, books, and supplies or can be used for approved purchase of equipment, travel expenses, or other expenses directly related to the student's research project.

Dr. Tex A. Sordahl Ornithology Graduate Research Award

Graduate

Support for graduate students in the Department of Biology whose emphasis is in ornithology with field studies of birds, laboratory museum projects, and conservation biology projects with preference given to projects in natural history and life history. Scholarship funds may be used for consumable supplies, small equipment, living expenses in the field or at a research station, travel expenses to field sites, conference or meeting costs, or other expenses directly related to the student's research project.

Drs. Gordon and Rella Christensen Scholarship

Undergraduate Graduate Need-Based

Assists students in the Department of Biology. The award is for both graduate and undergraduate students who are in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who are pursuing research opportunities.

Eldon J. Gardner Research Scholarship

Undergraduate

Awarded to undergraduate students participating in genetic research.

James A. and Patricia A. MacMahon Endowed Ecology Graduate Student Research Scholarship

Graduate

Supports graduate students in Ecology within the Biology Department. Award funds can cover research costs such as equipment and travel, but cannot be used for salary.

Joseph Sedley and Pearl Ivie Stanford Memorial Scholarship

Undergraduate Need-Based

For undergraduates in the Department of Biology. Selection is based on GPA, service to campus or community, and financial need. Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from a non-relative describing their community or campus service.

Matt Del Grosso Endowed Graduate Research Award

Graduate

This scholarship supports graduate students in good standing in the Department of Biology with field research expenses, including equipment or travel. Applicants must submit a research proposal and a letter of recommendation from their faculty advisor. Preference is given to students focused on field or international research. This award can only be received once.

Orson and Linda Treloar Endowed Graduate Scholarship

Graduate

Graduate students pursuing a degree within the Department of Biology. Preference will be given to students studing oncology, hematology, immunology, endocrinology, inherited genetic diseases, and/or bacterial, viral, and parasitic diseases. Public health is intentionally excluded from the list of preferred programs.

Professor Herman Henry Wiebe Endowed Scholarship in Safety and Industrial Hygiene

Undergraduate Juniors Need-Based

Students must be in their third year (junior year) majoring in Industrial Hygiene. Each eligible student should possess an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate leadership skills through their class work and/or extracurricular activities.

Richard J. and Marion A. Shaw Scholarship

Undergraduate

Students who demonstrate high academic achievement (3.5+ overall cumulative GPA). Awarded to undergraduate students majoring in the Department of Biology with an interest in plant biology.

Robert L. Vadas Scholarship

Undergraduate Need-Based

Undergraduates with a declared major in the Department of Biology. Applicants shall have financial need and shall be interested in plant biology.

Thomas L. Bahler Scholarship

Undergraduate Graduate Need-Based

Support to students in the Department of Biology, with special emphasis for students preparing for the health professions. Thomas L. Bahler Scholars will be students in good academic standing within the Department of Biology who have demonstrated financial need.

Warren Oscar Christenson & Anna Sundwall Christenson Memorial Scholarship

Undergraduate Need-Based

Undergraduate students pursuing a degree in the Department of Biology. Good academic standing who demonstrate financial need. Students must have filled out a FAFSA for the upcoming year to be eligible.
