Mind-Body Bridging for Mental Health Clinicians
Workshop/Training
Join the I-System Institute for a full day of Mind-Body Bridging training designed for mental health clinicians who want practical tools that support client wellbeing. This session introduces the foundations of MBB, an evidence based and transdiagnostic approach that helps people reduce distress, notice early signs of reactivity, and work with internal patterns that interfere with daily functioning. Certified MBB trainers will walk participants through step by step exercises that can be used in clinical practice with a wide range of populations. Clinicians who attend will gain concrete strategies for strengthening psychological flexibility and resilience in their clients. The training is held live on Zoom and offers 6 CEUs for full participation. It is a valuable opportunity for anyone looking to expand their therapeutic toolkit with a straightforward and effective modality supported by ongoing research.

Building Resilience Through Mind-Body Bridging® Workshops
Workshop/Training
Life can be pretty tough sometimes. Why is it that some people can go through really rough times and still bounce back? The difference is that those who bounce back have resilience. Resilience is our ability to adapt successfully in the face of stress, trauma, or adversity and then bounce back to our normal state of functioning and well-being. The good news is that resilience isn't something you're born with or not. The skills of resilience can be learned. This 4-session Building Resilience Program will provide you with skills to increase resilience during and after stressful life events, improve general well-being and enhance performance in demanding activities such as academics and sports. Research indicates that increased resilience can positively affect school and life outcomes for students, including academic achievement. This program will introduce you to Mind-Body Bridging, an evidence-based practice that reduces distress and builds resilience. You’ll learn skills to increase awareness of your body, thoughts, and emotions, recognize unhelpful patterns, and reframe experiences to unlock your full potential.

Science Unwrapped - From Superconductors to Black Holes
Special Event | Science Unwrapped
Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the free, public outreach program of USU's College of Arts and Sciences. Our events begin with a brief presentation, and are followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. At our January 23 event: A “duality” is something consisting of two things. Think “day and night,” “up and down,” and “left and right.” USU physicists Abhay Katyal and Oscar Varela explore dualities in physics, in which two seemingly different phenomena are described by the same underlying physical principles. Consider the everyday example of electricity and magnetism: Power plants generate electricity by using magnets, and running electricity through wires can, in turn, make a magnet. “Unification” means becoming united or one whole thing. Abhay and Oscar are among physicists exploring the ambitious idea that dualities can be unified – a theory that proposes nature can be described by a small set of physical laws. At Science Unwrapped, they’ll discuss how the tiniest subatomic particles behave, according to physical laws, in ways similar to immense gravitational systems like black holes.

FSQ at USU 2025-26 Series: The Crossing Point
Arts/Entertainment
The Long Arc
Program:
W.A. Mozart | StringQuartet in E-flat Major, K. 428
Leoš Janácek | String Quartet No. 1 “Kreutzer Sonata”
Ludwig van Beethoven | String Quartet in C-sharp minor, Op. 131
The final concert of the season reaches back—not as escape, but as remembrance.
These works span classical elegance, psychological rupture, and transcendent modernity. Mozart offers luminous clarity. Janácek brings stormy, uncontained passion. And Beethoven’s late quartet stands like a mountain at the edge of time—defiant, searching, and radiant with radical tenderness.
Together, this program honors the lineage of the string quartet as a space of intensity and transformation. These composers, in their own eras, were each asking: What is possible within four voices?
The Fry Street Quartet asks the same.
This concert roots the season in resonance, community, and the long arc of wisdom through sound.

Science Unwrapped - Microplastic Taxis for Microbes
Special Event | Science Unwrapped
Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the free, public outreach program of USU's College of Arts and Sciences. Our events begin with a brief presentation, and are followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. At our February 20 event: Plastics are everywhere in our modern world, providing convenience for packaging, clothing, furnishings, infrastructure and the many consumer products that make our lives easier. But plastic waste, which breaks down into small particles, is making its way into our air, soils, water, food – and into our bodies – all of which can harm our health and environment. USU environmental engineers Akib Al Mahir and Joanna (Liyuan) Hou are studying how microplastics interact with varied microbes in wastewater. Some of these microbes are beneficial and can break down microplastics. Others are harmful to humans and the environment. Akib and Joanna are exploring how microplastics behave like “tiny Uber drivers” that can transport microbes in ways that are helpful and not helpful.

Science Unwrapped - Why Queen Bees Can Have It All
Special Event | Science Unwrapped
Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the free, public outreach program of USU's College of Arts and Sciences. Our events begin with a brief presentation, and are followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. At our March 20 event: All living things, including people, face trade-offs. We only have so much time and energy to accomplish the things we want to do. Animals strive to reproduce, live as long as possible and defend their young, but sometimes they have to give up one or more of these goals. Queen bees, on the other hand, have lots of helpers that enable them to avoid more trade-offs than most other animals, and to accomplish more of what they want to do. USU biologist Karen Kapheim and her graduate students study the fascinating lives of social bees. Karen will tell us about the lives of queen bees, and will share what these creatures can teach us about evolutionary processes.

"The Abduction from the Seraglio"
("Die Entführung aus dem Serail")
Music by W.A. Mozart, Libretto by G. Stephanie
After his fiancée Konstanze, his servant Pedrillo, and his fiancée’s chambermaid Blonde have been captured by pirates and sold to the harem of local Ottoman lord Pasha Selim, Belmonte attempts a daring rescue involving subterfuge, deceit, and no small amount of luck. As one of only two of Mozart’s Singspiele that are regularly performed (the other being The Magic Flute), this work combines his musical brilliance with light-hearted comedy delivered in spoken scenes in a style presaging modern musical theatre.
Director: Dallas Aksoy
Conductor: Mariusz Smolij
Performances: Apr. 3, 6, 9, 11 at 7:30pm at the Utah Theatre (18 W Center, Logan, UT)
Performed by USU Opera Theatre students with the USU Symphony Orchestra in English with English titles

Science Unwrapped - Earthquakes: Predicting the Unpredictable
Special Event | Science Unwrapped
Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the free, public outreach program of USU's College of Arts and Sciences. Our events begin with a brief presentation, and are followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. At our April 10 event: You can see dark clouds forming in the distance and prepare for a storm. Hurricane forecasters can pinpoint disturbances over oceans, track their movements and predict where and when they might strike land. Not so with earthquakes, says USU geophysicist Srisharan Shreedharan – at least not yet. Srisharan and his graduate students make tiny earthquakes or “labquakes” in his innovative “earthquake machines.” At Science Unwrapped, Srisharan and master’s student Lindsey Broderick will share what they’re learning and how their efforts could improve earthquake forecasting broadly, and closer to home, along the Wasatch Fault Zone in Utah.
