Beehive State Panel

What is the Beehive State Panel?

  • The Beehive State Panel (BSP) periodically gathers Utahns' perspectives on issues important to the state to inform decision-making for a thriving future.

Who uses the Beehive State Panel?

  • Along with partnering with student and faculty researchers, we can conduct projects using our panel for clients in various sectors, including state and federal agencies, private companies, not-for-profit organizations, and state and national news media sources.
  • In addition to working with individual clients on standalone polling projects, we use the BSP to conduct omnibus surveys in which interested groups, agencies, or organizations can purchase one or more questions. In this way, fixed costs are shared. Depending on institutional or other support, USU faculty and students are able to add questions for research or Extension purposes for reduced or no cost.

How is the data collected?

  • The Beehive State Panel is a probability-based web panel recruited from randomly-selected addresses (USPS) across Utah. Individual surveys are completed by panel members by computer, tablet, or smart phone. All data is weighted (design and rake weights) by respondent sex, age, education, region of the state, political party registration, and past presidential vote to targets from the most recent American Community Survey (ACS) conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau and state voting records. We oversample residents in nonmetropolitan counties to ensure representation from more rural parts of the state.
